What can I expect at my first appointment?
The initial appointment usually begins with a comprehensive examination of your mouth, including teeth, gums, (TMJ) joints and other soft tissue, as well as your bite. We will evaluate your aesthetic concerns and take a series of full-mouth X-rays if you do not have current records on hand. Of course, if you are in pain or have an immediate concern, we will address it immediately.
What should I bring?
Please assist us by providing the following information at the time of your consultation:
- Any recent radiographs (X-rays).
- A list of medications you are presently taking.
- If you have medical or dental insurance, bring the necessary completed forms. This will save time and allow us to help you process any claims.
Please alert the office if you have a medical condition that may be of concern prior to surgery (i.e. diabetes, high blood pressure, artificial heart valves and joints, rheumatic fever, etc.) or if you are on any medication (i.e. heart medications, aspirin, anticoagulant therapy, etc.) or require medication prior to dental cleanings (i.e. antibiotics, for pre-med.)
How is the course of treatment decided?
The second visit is usually a consultation appointment. We’ll go over information gathered during your initial exam and talk about treatment options and associated fees, so you can choose the course of treatment that makes the most sense for you.
How are treatment recommendations made?
We recommend treatment that has scientifically been proven to be the most successful in similar cases. Keeping current with the latest dental studies enables us to make recommendations that are evidence-based, so you can rely on our suggestions for your care. Our belief is that fully informed patients always make the best choice for themselves at that moment.
IMPORTANT: A parent or guardian must accompany all patients under 18 at the consultation visit.
